Amazon’s last-gen Kindle Paperwhite is on sale for 50 bucks right now

Lately, it seems like the biggest happenings in the world of E Ink revolve around great note-taking devices like the Kindle Scribe and color offerings like the appropriately titled Kobo Libra Color. That said, if you’re looking for a basic e-reader to get through your summer reading list, there’s nothing wrong with getting a newer e-reader like the Kindle Paperwhite 2018 – which happens to be for sale on Amazon (via Woot) in used condition with listings for $49.99.

Amazon’s latest-generation Paperwhite has become harder to find since the arrival of the 2021 model, though it’s not a dramatic drop in features. It still carries a IPX8 rating for full water resistance, plus a sharp six-inch, 300ppi display and support for Audible audiobooks via Bluetooth headphones. The new Paperwhite sports a larger screen and better backlighting — not to mention wireless charging, if you opt for the 32GB Signature Edition — but its price rarely drops below $100, even when it’s on sale. The real travesty here is the fact that the 10th-gen Paperwhite only offers 8GB of storage in its base configuration and uses Micro USB for charging instead of USB-C, which even in 2018 seemed like a failure.
